• Question: Why/how do nettles sting?

      Hi eirlys,

      Nettle leaves have many hollow stinging hairs called trichomes on leaves and stems, which act like hypodermic needles, injecting histamine and other chemicals that produce a stinging sensation!

      Ouch.
