• Question: why is it that a "typical girl" likes pink and make up and a "typical boys" like blue and skate boards and baggy jeans

      Hi gpap08,

      That’s a great question! There are lots of theories, but the main one is that today, all the toys that boys like to play with are coloured blue or black, and all the girl toys are pink, so children develop a preference for these colours because they associate them with nice things to play with!
      Actually, in the past, pink was considered a baby boy colour! An American newspaper in 1914 advised mothers, “If you like the color note on the little one’s garments, use pink for the boy and blue for the girl, if you are a follower of convention.” [The Sunday Sentinal, March 29, 1914.]

      So it’s quite a new invention to use pink for girls actually!
