      Hi ciaragrimesxox,

as a first aid helper I can think of only one reason – it’s kept in the fridge and is nice and cold. Cooling slows down the circulation and stops blood rushing into the injured area, which would make it go black. However I’d use frozen peas in a tea towel every time – cause butter is going to melt, everywhere. And the last thing I need in someone’s bloodshot eye is salty oil! Cause that’s gonna hurt… and probably more than the black eye did in the first place.

      🙂 Sarah
