Hiya Emily – well I’d say its because we are not born fully developed adults. In evolutionary terms the point of life is to get to a stage to reproduce and pass on your genes. If we were born ready to do that we probably miss out the growing up stage – but being born ready and big isn’t physiologically possible so we are born small and then have to grow up.
      hope that helps

      Hi Emily,

Because all the animals that tried not to grow up died out because only grown-ups can have babies and keep a species going… so that’s why we’ve all evolved to grow up.

      🙂 Sarah
