• Question: Why do some animals lay eggs and some give birth?

      Actually, animals that give Birth also have eggs – but they keep them inside the body to incubate and develop into babies instead of sitting on them! There are advantages and disadvantages to both methods if you think about it…

      Its the way they’ve evolved to be. But as Sarah says even we have eggs – we dont lay them as such but invest more energy to get the offspring to be partly developed before giving birth to it. Its why we generally only have one baby at a time. Fly’s and frogs for examample lay loads of eggs and then leave them too it – there’s lots there in the hope some might survive.
