Since I was going to spend 30-40 hours each week working, I wanted be in a job that is meaningful and all about finding out how nature works, rather than something I’d be bored doing.
I also thought about becoming a doctor instead, but medicine can only work if scientists discover cures and new medicines in the background!

I love discovering what is unknown, and more importantly it does not feel like a job.

I love science! I am fascinated by how things work (especially in nature) so it was ideal for me to do a job that I love. Although the hours can be very long and it can be stressful when things don’t work out the way they should, I like waking up in the morning and wanting to go to work rather than dreading it. Plus I’m a total nerd so it’s really the only place for me 🙂

I’ve become a scientist by always doing things I’ve enjoyed and found interesting. During my A levels Biology was always my favorite so I went to Uni to study Biology. During that course I discovered I enjoyed genetics and liked the idea of doing research to find out new things and to do something that could be beneficial for people. So put simply, I became a scientist becuase I enjoyed it.

I didn’t decide I wanted to do science as a career until I was near the end of my degree. I chose to do chemistry because I enjoyed it and found it intresting and then one day I woke up and thought actually I want to do this as a job!
