      Hi 321blastoff!

Babies’ hearing is very good from the start, and very sensitive, although they won’t be able to work out what they’re hearing or where it’s coming from for a while.
Vision however takes a year to develop fully: At birth, babies’ vision is pretty fuzzy, though they can make out light, shapes and movement. Also their eyes wander until they learn to fix both eyes on an object. They can only focus 20cm to 30cm away! That’s just far enough to clearly make out the face of the person holding it. At this age babies can see colour but can’t tell the difference between similar tones such as red and orange. At four months, babies can focus on things nearby, and understand how far away things are and distinguish colours better. And at one year old, vision is just like that of an adult!

      🙂 Sarah

Sarah’s given a lovely answer to this already.
Here’s a video which shows how eye sight develops – ignor the advert at the start
