  The Earth has been rotating ever since it formed out of a nebula dust cloud that was rotating when it collapsed. It has been rotating ever since, because nothing has stopped it yet! The tides in the oceans caused by the moon are slowing it down very very very slowly… the energy to shift all that water comes out of the Earth’s rotation energy.
