There are lots of ancient stories about how the Earth came to be. The stories in the Bible give an abstract and not a literal account of this – first the planets were formed, then plants, then animals, and then humans. The sequence of this story is correct, but not the timing of it all (in 7 days!), because the people who wrote down the bible stories didn’t know better. Had they had the evidence we have now, they may well have written it down very differently and made the chapter much much longer to cover all the exciting things that happened with the big bang, the formation of galaxies, stars and planets, with the origin of life and the evolution into conscious humans – I mean, you really couldn’t make it up it’s so cool!
