• Question: What is in battery that make it power appliances?

      Hiya – another good question. THere are lots of different types of batteries and the different battery’s have different things in them, but they all work by storing energy in them in the form of chemical energy, that can then be released as electrical energy.
      To electricity is the movement of electrons… some chemicals can store extra electrons that can them be relased.

      Hi ciarameehan!

      Here’s a great video that explains what’s in a normal battery and how the materials all work together to make electricity flow out of it!

      But you don’t actually need all these things to make a simple battery.

      You can charge your ipod or phone using your own battery made of fruit! Check this out!
