• Question: If you do the salt an ice challenge, when you put ice on your hand then mix it with the salt. What causes your hand to turn red and start burning?

      Hi cassie,

      It’s the cold! Because salt melts the ice at a much much lower temperature than it would usually melt at, so you are holding a liquid at -10 or even -15 degrees in your hand and it’s sucking all the heat out of it! I guess it’s a bit like how your hand would feel after a good snow ball fight without gloves on.
