      Meg – another difficult one!!.
No one knows for sure – but the big bang is the best explaination we have. That explains how it all started from a very hot and big exploision that happened everywhere all at the same time and then went on expanding. The rapid expansion caused it all to cool down and we ended up with the 1st atoms which started to group together to give matter. What happened after the big bang has been worked out so we know it happened, but what happened to triger it is still unknown.
